Harold “Tee” McGee, 87, of Rockingham, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 17, 1939, in Richmond County, North Carolina, Harold was the son of the late Will McGee and Claudia Ballard McGee.

Harold shared a beautiful marriage of 66 years with the love of his life, Judith Carr McGee. Their life together was a testament to faith, commitment, and enduring love. In his earlier years, Harold moved from Rockingham, NC to Wheaton, Illinois, where he met his future wife. He began his career with Local 150 in Chicago, IL as an Operating Engineer. Through his career with Oury Engineering, the couple lived in several places, including Richmond, California, before returning to St. Charles, IL where Harold served as District Manager, overseeing operations across 27 states and 2 provinces. In 1973, he started his family business, Valley Striping and Sweeping, until his retirement in 1991. After retirement, Harold and Judy returned to his home in Rockingham, where they built the home they would lovingly share for many years.

A man who never shied away from hard work, Harold believed in providing for his family and leading by example. Even into his mid-80s, he continued cutting trees and preparing firewood, remaining active until he was 85 years old. His strong work ethic was one of his greatest legacies, and he instilled those same values in his children and grandchildren through his actions rather than his words.

Harold was known for his patience, wisdom, and gentle spirit. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved making people laugh, and could always brighten a room with one of his jokes. He enjoyed his time farming cows and hay. He was an avid reader of western books. He also enjoyed cooking, and his homemade potato soup was a family favorite.

Most importantly, Harold was a devoted Christian man. He lived with the assurance of God's promise of heaven and demonstrated Christ's love through the way he treated others. His greatest joy was his family, and he especially cherished his beloved wife, Judy. The love he showed her throughout their marriage served as a lasting example for their children, grandchildren, and all who knew them.

Harold's life was marked by faith, integrity, hard work, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and perseverance that will continue to inspire generations to come. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has received the eternal reward promised to those who place their faith in the Lord.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Bryan McGee; brother, Billy Ray McGee; and sisters, Elizabeth Ann Kunzelman and Margaret Smith.

Left to cherish Harold’s memory is his beloved wife, Judith Carr McGee of the home; daughters, Terri Lynn McGee and Tammy Jean McGee, both of Rockingham, Tracy Denise Hartje (Jeff) of Burlington, IL and Cynthia Kay McGee of DeKalb, IL; grandchildren, Christopher, Bryan, Kelly, Katie, Amanda, Mary, Bradley, and Brianna; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Sandhill Road, Rockingham, from 10:00-11:00am.

The Memorial Service will immediately follow visitation, beginning at 11:00am, with Pastor Butch Park and Pastor John Cartrett officiating.
